Blacksmithing Basics

The modern blacksmith trade is vastly different from what it once was. In Tex's shed, tools of the trade vary from the traditional (forge, anvil etc) through to modern machinery (welding tools and so on).

Tex once told me that back in the day, blacksmiths were expected to smith their own tools as part of their apprenticeship. After a number of years, the apprentice would have forged enough tools to progress as a Journeyman of the trade.

Once Tex got in to blacksmithing as a hobby, one of the first things he smithed was a set of tools and utensils. Being Tex, they were a bit fancier than your standard set, incorporating metal worked scrolls and swirls as seen in these forged pliers.
